Scharm Floor Covering Celebrates 44 Years of Business!

This month marks the 44th Anniversary of Scharm Floor Covering!

To celebrate over four decades of business, we thought we’d take a look back at how Scharm began.

A family owned and operated business, Scharm was started by Fred and LaRayne Scharm in June of 1973. We began as a small neighborhood flooring store, F. Scharm Carpet Shoppe, selling carpet and sheet vinyl in Chicago. Over the years, we expanded our product lines to offer the latest trends in flooring and become a full-service flooring company. We still specialize in carpet, but we now provide a variety of other flooring options, including: hardwood, ceramic and porcelain tile, vinyl, linoleum and laminate flooring.

We are a family of flooring professionals who are passionate about what we do. Today, Scharm Floor Covering is run by Fred Sr.’s son, Fred Scharm Jr. Fred is extremely knowledgable when it comes to flooring, and learned the business inside and out from his father, eventually taking over in 2003.

Scharm Flooring is a family tradition, not just for our family, but for other families in the community as well. We’ve worked with a number of families over the years, providing flooring solutions for parents, children, and even grandchildren.

Our business is still going strong, 44 years later, and has become an integral part of the community. We moved to our current location in Des Plaines in 1980, and pride ourselves on being a local business that our neighbors can trust.

We’ve also been fortunate enough to receive a number of awards over the years, including: Angie’s List Super Service Award, Daily Herald Reader’s Choice for Best Carpet/Flooring Store in 2013 and 2016, Chicago Floorcovering Association Retailer of the Year, and the Chicago Floorcovering Association President’s Gavel.

We’ve stayed up to date on the trends over the years as well, and are dedicated to offering the latest styles and very best products available. As our slogan says, we bring LIFE to your living space!
